Selfies Everywhere

This summer, while playing around with the concept of digital painting, I worked on illustrative self portraits for my social media.  I wanted to have something that I could adjust from time to time to reflect the activities of my life and work occasionally.

The first design that I came up with was a little bit too "Barbie" for me (above), so I made another design (below) as well as a modification.  So far, this design has temporarily satisfied me until I am able to try again.

This is where we stand now, but what do you think?  Did you like the first design better? Should I MAKE time to replace my current avatar?

If you want your own digital illustration, order one HERE!

#OOTDsketches (29)

Throughout the week make a quick sketch of what I am wearing on that particular day, either as a warm-up or just to keep me loose if I don't have a lot of time to draw.  These drawings are then scanned and posted on my blog every Wednesday.  Enjoy!

Left:: First day back at the school!  Meetings, Cross Practice and classroom prep all week.  It has been a series of chaotic events, and I am looking forward to settling into a routine.  Unfortunately, that time is still just over the horizon!
Right:: Still working in the classroom, but practicing (running) in the afternoons with the team = updos and flow-y tops!
Finally the weekend! Enjoyed some time avoiding schoolwork (haha), catching up on business items and spending some time with the in-laws!  Falling back in love with this sweetheart top.  Hubbies have a way of influencing wardrobe choices and mine loved this piece when I tried it on before putting it in the "give away" pile.  Guess what? It's in the closet still, hah!

Throwback:: Book Covers

Here's a little bit of a flash back for you today.  For a while I was super obsessed with book cover design.  I loved the relationship with the front, spine and back of the book; I loved focusing on the cover illustration; and I loved hiding humorous snippets within the details of the cover (those that were fictitious).
While I made quite a few during my undergrad (and beyond), are are a few to wet your interest.
Fun fact: I also created the logo for the fictitious publishing companies and had as much fun with those as I did with the covers themselves!

Completely made up this series (there was a male version as well).  Note the author's name...

This is off of a real book that I read and really enjoyed—however I wasn't crazy about the cover photo because I didn't think it fit the content very well.  So I made my own!  I also have a special love for the publishing company's logo.

Not my usual style or color scheme, but I had fun with it... as a Sherlock Holmes enthusiast, I felt special interest in this series.  Looking back (this is from 2011), I can see that there is just too much going on on the cover.

This was the first book cover I ever did.  Not a favorite, but still fun to look back on!  I included the inside flaps for this design, something I quit doing before long, haha!

This past week was so crazy that I didn't have time to color anything in—I hope that you enjoy none of the less!  I started out the week dressed up because I was at CAMP all week (right image) in athletic wear to kick off the Cross Country season (Hubbard and I coach)
I also gave half my blood to the mosquito population while there.  Because, I'm just that generous.

I took the opportunity this week (due to the chaos of my life) to provide a peek at my work process—I put the ink in this image, but I left the pencil sketch for you to see :) (not sure why I look so angry—I promise, I didn't have an attitude last Friday).
Also, I turned 24 this past week—happy birthday to me!! I spent the day with my family and absolutely loved it.

Water(camp)color

We spent a lot of time camping this past week! The first week was hectic and busy while the hubs and I put on a Cross Country camp for our high school team.
Wow.  I am so tired.
The second half was spent with my parents/siblings up north at a quiet cottage.  While we didn't have a lot of time with them, I really enjoyed some time to relax and rest up before school/meetings start on Monday (today!)

Despite the rain (that was present for the majority of the week to one degree or another), I did get some time to start this watercolor of the view from the fire-pit.  Hopefully I will get sometime to finish it, but until then, this is how it stands.
