Five Favorites: May

1)  I was featured on The Lovely Knot this week!  Very excited to have a chance to share my work alongside so many other talented individuals in the wedding field.  This little "blushing" dream is becoming more real each day

2)  I was able to spend some extra time with my siblings and parents this month!  I tagged along on part of their Florida trip and had a blast.  Sometimes you don't realize how much of a break you needed until you're in the middle of it.

3)  I recently joined a group of business owners and it has really motivated and encouraged me!  The hardest part about being self employed is that it can be so hard to get help from other business owners because of... well... competition.
But now I can help others and get the help I need (if you're a small business owner, let me know and I'll get you into the group!)

4)  Along with the business, school has gone really well this month.  April was a different story, and I was seriously wondering if I would make it.  But between some extra love from my students and the light at the end of the tunnel, another year of teaching will soon be in the books.

5)  I am currently on my way to cheer on my husband's high school track team at States!  Very excited to have so many athletes qualify for such an honor!

Be back soon ;)

OOTDsketches (65)

Throughout the week make a quick sketch of what I am wearing on that particular day, either as a warm-up or just to keep me loose if I don't have a lot of time to draw.  These drawings are then scanned and posted on my blog every Wednesday.  Again, nothing finished or professional, but something that I have fun with.  Hope you enjoy!

So last week I spent some time in Florida with the fam.
And totally ditched my husband.
I'm not proud of it, but it's true!  And I'm back now so it's all good ;)  He didn't seem to mind too much—and as I type he's happily eating ice cream so I guess all is right with the world.

Anyway, back to the sketches—can we talk about the difference in attire within 24 hours???  One minute, I'm sitting by the pool with my sister, and the next thing I know, I'm digging for more layers of clothing and ordering hot chocolate at the track meet!  What-the-what??
Michigan, if you were trying to talk me OUT of moving to Florida, you should have tried a different tactic.

Decorative Banners

I just love party decor that is super easy, and super cheep.
Am I alone on this?

That's why I am so excited about these banners: simple statement design, full alphabet with numbers and punctuation included, and only $5 (for a limited time).  The best part is that after you purchase the files (instant download for the last minute party planner. *ahem*), you can use them to say whatever you can think of for whatever occasion you want—for a graduation open house, for a wedding, for a baby shower, for a birthday party or a pity party!

Just kidding, I never have those...

Anybody else have some party planning shortcuts?
Katrina is in need.
Apparently we're adults now and need to add some sophistication to our party life...

Be sure to check them out in the shop: here!

Pardon the terrible scan, I hope to update the image tonight but when I thought of the scanner at work, I decided to sleep in a little bit rather than rush to use my own scanner.
Lesson learned!  Sleep is for the weak anyway...
Anywho, this dress is one that I purchased from Maurices ages ago.  It's a good cut for my figure, even if it is a tad short for my preference (a long slip underneath fixes that issue).  I've started playing around with different layering options—and I think this mint button up is my favorite so far!

What are your tricks for "recycling" clothes?

Color Blocking

Here's an old piece that I did in college for a school event.  I loved playing around with the colors and the positive and negative space, but my professors said that it looked more like sausage links, haha!
Needless to say, this piece isn't pulled out very often, but after I was looking through a few old files, I found it and decided to share :)

Wedding Stationery: Midnight Romance

Another set of wedding stationery.  I designed a few pieces and placed them on instagram for a vote and this design was the clear winner!  After a few tweaks, I finished the entire set and this lovely set is now in the shop!
I don't favor dark backgrounds in my wedding/stationery designs very often, but I did really enjoy this piece and hope that it will take some bride-to-be one step closer to marital bliss ;)

And, of course, some inspiration behind this set::

Ah, May.  Until today (in the 50s again around here), you were just what I could have wanted...
Loved getting the chance to wear clothes that were a little lighter last week—including this floral peplum tank!  I threw a light cardigan on over it to dress it up a bit for Church, but spent the rest of the day enjoying a little bit of warmth on my shoulders!
