Sketchbook: Ice Fishing

A couple of weeks ago, Hubby-Todd and I went ice fishing with his family.  It was a nice "warm" day, which was nice.  I usually chicken out of going because I really hate being cold.  Seriously.  It makes me miserable and just feel yucky all over (why do I live in Michigan? Because I love my family more).
Anyway, the change in the weather was nice, because I actually got to go with them—but that meant that the fish weren't as excited to eat as they usually are and I didn't catch a single thing! Ugh
But that's okay—we laughed about it and I drew this quick-y the following week so that I could laugh some more :)

Five Favorites

1) Found some great tips for strengthening my professionalism / freelance business on this post.

2) One of my favorite illustrators ever, Inslee, created an Instagram account for her puppy.
While I normally find these kind of annoying, I have really loved watching the cuteness so much!

3) Just got a new track jacket that I love! (exact—mine is in French Blue, but I think I would have gotten the dark blue or white if it had been in stock)  It's lined with fleece, so it's great for the winter runs that I typically avoid.

4) Long phone dates with college roomies.
They are the best.

5) Can we just talk about how incredible my hubby is?  And if you haven't checked out his work, you really should.

OOTDsketches (50!!)

Throughout the week make a quick sketch of what I am wearing on that particular day, either as a warm-up or just to keep me loose if I don't have a lot of time to draw.  These drawings are then scanned and posted on my blog every Wednesday.  Again, nothing finished or professional, but something that I have fun with.  Hope you enjoy!
Last week was not a very cute week as far as attire goes... The elementary students that I teach worked with clay quite a bit this week, which necessitates less pretty clothing options.
Regardless, I felt polished in my structured vest and "princess necklace".

Memorizing Beautifully

I've been working on memorizing more scripture lately and wanted something pretty to write the verses on.  Because, let's face it—it's much easier to remember to look at something pretty than to look at something boring!
So I drew this little botanical accented box to put my little memory verses inside of the boxed area and the reference along with it or next to the flower (which ever my pretty-thing-loving heart desires).

Considering offering this as a downloadable printable in my esty shop—would you be interested?
How do you pretty-up your devotional / memorizing time?

Five Favorites

1. Hubby-Todd and I have decided to sponsor a child through Compassion International (Sponsor= provide a monthly dollar amount to allow a child in a 3rd world country to have access to God's word, school, clean water and good food) .  We have sponsored children through other programs in the past, but have found this foundation to have a greater impact.

2.  Red midi skirts (here, here, here, oh and here)
Or rather, just midi skirts in general, but definitely a red trend lately!

3. Katie Rodger's Instagram
"Paper Fashion" has taken fashion illustration to the next level—mixing media and breaking all of the "rules".  Her work is effortlessly elegant.

4. Crock pots
Throw ingredients in.  Turn on.  Ignore until done.  That's my kind of cooking!
Recently tried this recipe and it made a comeback this week.  Great comfort food for cold weather :)

5. "Command Z"  (the "undo" shortcut on computers)
I've needed to "undo" a few things this week and it's nice that my computer doesn't mind as much as real people :)

I guess this week was a purple week...?
Left:: Off to church and longing for that warm weather already (oh dear, it's only January!) so I pulled out one of my summer dresses and wore one of my sweaters over top of it—a trick I employ regularly.
Right:: My uniform lately.  I have quite a few knit v-neck sweaters in a variety of colors and I am always throwing one of my scarfs over top of it to dress up the otherwise boring outfit.  Love the light ones that I picked up while in Italy in 2012—the crochet detail always attracts attention and makes me feel like I put some effort in, haha.

Sketchbook: Hobbit Girl

Yay! My little Hobbit Girl is now in color!

If you follow my social media (instagram / twitter / facebook) then you will have seen this little piece during the "sketch" stage.  This was another Sketch Dailies challenge that I wanted to do but was unable to finish until now.  Hopefully my current projects will run smoothly and quickly so that I am able to dabble in a few other projects like this one.  What do you think?
